Morning Blend 3 September, 2013

Despite the growing number of senior citizens in the country today, it appears neglect and financial, mental and physical abuse is as prevalent as ever. We discuss the challenges facing older people in today’s Bahamas with Rosemary Bain, Assistant Director of the Department of Social Services, and Charles Sawyer and Idena Burrows, National Council on Older Persons. October 1 is United Nations International Day of Older Persons, and a number of events are planned for The Bahamas.
If you know of a neglected or abused older person, contact Social Services’ National Hotline: 322-2763.

Also, with just days to go before the big day, six of the eight beautiful contestants in the 2013 Miss Universe Bahamas pageant join us to share their experiences: Taisha-Monet Smellie, Tavette Darville, Lexi Wilson, Chantel O’Brian, Crystal Glinton and Shanae Strachan. Miss Universe Bahamas Vice President of Media Relations Jerome Sawyer tells us the pageant is set for Sunday, September 8, for the Atlantis Resort.
