The groundwater table in New Providence is under constant threat of contamination. Civil Engineer Kenya Longley says the major sources are backyard mechanics and carwash facilities. But areas populated by shanty towns are also at risk, as these communities often have limited access to public utilities. Longley, a PhD candidate and specialist in Environmental Engineering with Caribbean Civil Group, has been doing research on groundwater contamination and crisis mitigation. She shares her findings, and gives advice on how to avoid being a source of contamination, and how to avoid contaminated groundwater.
