Hello Mr. Miller,
What is going on with your webstream, it seems as though the website is blocked (or something) because I cannot access Guardian Radio until your show has aired. Things the make you go, hmmmm???
Hi Melvern,
We have had no technical difficulties with our site this week. Please ensure that your flash player and browser are the most up-to-date versions to ensure maximum compatibility with our player. Thank you for choosing Guardian Radio!
Hi Mr. Miller I would like the public to be made aware of the seriousness of the CLICO matter. I am a widow with three children; we are being affected greatly because CLICO is incapable or has cease to pay its debt. I am being told by Commonwealth Bank that properties that have been left for my children and I are being sold because of lack of payment from CLICO. After receiving a letter from the bank stating they have made payment to the Property Owner’s Association and has now debited the mortgage for the amount; I went into the bank to make further inquiries. I was then told by a bank employee that the property is in the process of being sold. Apparently their is a conflict of interest because the law firm that I hired is acting on the bank’s behalf as well. The law firm handling the matter is Graham Thompson & Co; I have not been informed by them about the bank’s decision. I feel that the public should be informed because the CLICO matter is being pushed aside and poor people are being victimized. I am requesting assistance from anyone who can properly advise me.
I would like to bring to light to the Bahamian people some other crimes that casinos and other businesses in the Bahamas are “ALLOWED” to commit by the government. These parties are literally KILLING Bahamians (and tourist) “DAILY” by breaking the health and safety at work law. This law has existed since 2002. The law is clear that all employers are REQUIRED to provide a safe and healthy work environment for their employees. The law also state that if this law should be in conflict with any other law, the health and safety at work act “SHALL PREVAIL”. Meaning that “NOTHING”(including the gaming act) is above health and safety. Yet, casinos and night clubs not only allow but sell cigarettes and “ENCOURAGE” people to smoke. I can tell you that management at one casino has told employees, “IN WRITING” that they are not allowed to discourage patron from smoking . It is no secret that second hand smoke kills.
Not only are they breaking local law, but they are also breaking an international treaty the the Bahamas has signed with the World Health Organization (W.H.O). The Treaty is called the FCTC (Framework Convention on Tobacco Control) and was signed June 29 2004, Ratified November 3 2009, and (supposedly) entered into force February 1 2010. You can verify this at the W.H.O. wibsite (http://www.who.int/fctc/signatories_parties/en/index.html). The treaty states that all parties that signs agrees and recognizes the second hand smoke “KILLS”. Article 8 of the treaty also “REQUIRES” that: “All people should be protected from tobacco smoke. All indoor workplaces and and indoor public places should be smoke-free” it also states that “Approaches other than 100% smoke-free laws environment, including ventilation, air filtration, and the use of designated smoking ares… have been repeatedly shown to be ineffective….”. I have given this information to Mr. Harcourt Brown and Mr. Shane Gibson and I have signed documents that prove so, but they have both decided to ignore the law. I guess when it comes to “Money” versus the lives of Bahamian workers and the public our government clearly thinks “money” is more important and its worth breaking the law and killing people for. I think a class action law suit against the government and anyone else who breaks these laws will help people “UNDERSTAND” this is serious.
I have contacted a lawyer who, in my opinion, has proven to me, is not “AFRAID” to challenge the government or “ON THE TAKE” from any one. If you are willing and able to help save the lives of those that bring home “our” bacon please contact me at smokingvictim@gmail.com. The goal is to document contributions by receipt so “IF” legal cost is awarded, contributors can get their money back. All contributor’s identities will remain secret, unless you wish otherwise. The primary goal is an injunction to stop smoking in public and workplaces.
I am mother of two I franchise with the web on Wednesday if all mothers and dads affected could bring their kids out that morning so the pm and the Christian council can see who they will have to provide for would be a plus to the cause
good day mr miller i resently moved to mangrove cay andros with my three children attending mangrove cay high and burnt rock school . i live in lisbon creek . i am liveing in a home where the owner had died for many years. my concern is the water its at $1700.00 dollars even though the owner is passed for many years now. the person who lived in the home before my familyand i, has moved away and left a huge bill. i tryed to get a new meter in my name, but was told that i have to get the 1700.00 dollars payed off before i can get a new meter. please help me to understand is it the responesibiltie for me to try and get the old tents to pay this bill or is it the bahamas water company who needs to see that this perons whom they no should pay this bill. they tell me that they only way to get clean running water for my family and i is to pay this bill off. mr miller the reason i moved to the island because no jobs are in nassau right now . i dont have this kind of money and i think it is down right wrong and inhuman to ask me to pay this hug bill . i need some help please help me this is so wrong what shall i do
May I just say what a relief to find somebody who really understands what they are talking about on the net.
You definitely understand how to bring an issue to light and make it important.
More people ought to check this out and understand this side of your story.
I was surprised you’re not more popular because you surely have the gift.
Mr Miller I like your show very much congratulations to you all. I like when you do the grading for the government, I agree they deserve an F. For this guess I give him a “F” for fail and a TF for “talking fool”. The lady caller earlier talking about casualty. My question is she a casualty of the road work damage? If she is she ought to tell us what she know that makes her so happy about being a victim. Otherwise if she is not then both she and your guess deserves an F for fail and a TF for “talking fool”.
I was disturbed by the comments made by Mr. Smith, Guardian Radio station manager as he was asked by Darold Miller about too much talk becoming “nauseating” to which he agreed. The format of a talk radio station is just that, talk. How could there “too much” talk? Does a music radio station get “nauseating” by playing too much music? Nobody says Guradian Talk Radio should be listened to all day long. If a listener has heard enough talk they are quite capable of tuning to another station with a different format for a break. I personally, would love to see even more talk programs on Guardian Talk Radio. I listen every weekday and when I tune in on the weekends I am dissapointed to not be able to hear some talk show at any hour. If the station cannot produce shows to fill every hour then previously aired shows can be re-aired.
What is hell is unfair competition? Because you have superior purchase power and are able to provide goods at a reduced price to the relief of the consumers, it’s unfair? Come on, Man! Competition works to the consumer’s benefit. Budding entrepreneurs need to find their niche when they want to run a small operation. Why should, I, the consumer suffer to have him run his business?
Hi Darrell,Often Bahamians are our own worse enemy. On many (govt) jobs persons who rises to the occasion to go above and beyond to help the public in there assigned duties are misunderstood by the establishment. They are often viewed as trying to get a tip or bribe. Also in many cases the managers or supervisors on these jobs just dont care. I have seen persons in tears after dealing with some govt. departments. The Ministries need to revaluate their managers/heads of departments and if they are not working effectively, they should move them. How is it that only the junior staff are transfered and the ineffective heads stay in positions for decades. Some blindness you just cant fix!!
Hello Darold
In regards to duty charges being decrease, this does not mean a Company has to reduce their prices on goods meaning they can state that even though duty had decrease first cost or freight has increase for them. So that means the poor man will be paying more than double in that case. For an example cereal use to be 10% or 15% duty at some point, now they are duty free for a while yet the prices remain the same in the food store as if duty was applied to it.
Will we still have NIB taken out of our salaries if VAT is implemented??
Shoot to kill Darold…then realise that you have killed the wrong person! Computer and cell phone gone? What about Jamie Smith’s life that is now gone? The topic is brutality…he was allegedly beaten to death…not shot out on the streets…he was beaten while in police custody. People I beg you to think of your sons and daughters that may one day be taken into custody for “questioning”…imagine getting the call that the child is dead. What is going on in the walls of the police stations??? The streets are crazy and it now seems that NOWHERE is safe!!!
Mr. Miller, if cut backs are going to happen it should start with the leaders of the country. The perks and bonuses they get are crazy. I call it a test of integrity and initiative. Second park all government vehicles after hours to preserve fuel and wear and tear on them. They are not private vehicles, all the servicing of the cars are paid for by the government (money of the people). Thirdly, you are right Mr. Miller we are to centralized. Your show on friday past hit the nail on the head. It is time to properly use and benefit on our natural resources. Our brothers and sisters in the family islands live well with their farming and fishing with little technology. For example Spanish Wells fishermen, I dont see them fighting to come to Nassau for anything, but only to sell fish to provide for their families.
Mr Miller, I think your objection to the burlesque show is too much. When I was young the Crystal Palace casino theatre had topless dance shows which I saw with my parents well into the 90s.
Sorry, if that was ok, then this is ok.
Thank you.

Good-afternoon. I would like to bring to your attention the injustice that is going on here in the Bahamas concerning the disable. My mother is 52 yrs old and deaf. She has worked at Spotless Cleaners for 22yrs as a presser, before the company shut down. A former employee of Spotless Cleaner switched to New Oriental Cleaners on Mackey and Madeira Sts. and referred my mother to her manager. She told the manager that my mother is deaf but is one of the best workers at Spotless Cleaners. My mother and I went and filled out the application and was told to bring in the necessary documents (medical certificate, police record, reference letter and NIB card). We could not afford to go private for the medical certicate so we went to the public clinic. We woke up 5:30am to get there early to be served, sir and if you know how the government clinics are, it can be a more than half of the day being there. Long story short. When the items were brought in, the manager informed me her managers ‘above’ her said ‘They don’t have the TIME to deal with my mother’ because she can’t hear or talk to communicate to them. I told that she can read and you can write to her, still it was the same answer,’We don’t have the TIME’. That, sir, really hurt me to the core that I almost cried in front of the manager (but didn’t). What is this Bahamas coming to. Yes I will try another place for employment for her but it was what they said that hurt and why they will not hire her. Please, please help me out here. Let not this type of treatment go unnoticed. This should not happen and I am thinking of the others that are coming up so that they would get treated like that.
Thank you
On the gambling issue
”The people have spoken” but the voice that have spoken is not the less than 50% of the people who voted but THE MORE THAN 50% WHO DID NOT PARTICIPATE in the distraction of such issue. This non show is a message to the politicians, preachers, layers, medias, elite, egotistical and talk show host and that is:
1. This issue was not important
2. We refuse to be distracted
3. We refuse to participate in any such acts without a plan
4. There are more important questions that were not asked that need to be asked and answered
5. There are more effective ways of dealing with this without the public participation
6. I can go on and on
We are all grateful for the media and the hard efforts to inform and to entertain. However, for most parts the media is in need of a more serious obligation, commitment and dedication and that is to the will of the people, the will of the nation and not just the political and the elite few.
The media must ask the questions that the politician is not willing to answer (ask three times so the audience is alerted that the question is not being answered and then move on, how insulting can this be to the guest?).
This nation is gifted with many naturally smart individuals (not just book smart, but natural thinkers). The media must find or summon more smart individuals to participate in the discussions and debates, not just the thoughts or ideas of the same individuals again and again.
Now if we say that less than 20% of the yes votes are all it takes to relocate resources from immediate challenges to this issues then we continue to tumble dominoes in order to compensate for an embarrassing situation that should have never happened in the first place.
I say to Mr. Prime Minister, acknowledge that you drop the ball! This is embarrassing but better to admit and get it over so that we change direction immediately.
“The people have spoken”.
Bahamas let’s talk about the Economic Discrimination the vote Yes would deceive you on….Let’s talk about the TRUTH of this Numbers Racket vs. Casino
1. CASINO BRING IN NEW MONEY into the country. NUMBERS take the Bahamian Disposable Income (Money already OWNED BY BAHAMIANS and designated for a particular bill/expense or investment) and REDISTRIBUTE IT to those WHO DID NOT WORK for it. NUMBERS reallocate your money from paying ever-day bills to taking a GAMBLE hoping you make it back to pay the same bills first intended to pay.
2. CASINO take a portion of this NEW MONEY to pay BAHAMIANS a salary, Pay Government Tax, Reinvest in the country to keep the business “a going concern” i.e. keep the business open.
3. Casinos pay local vendors who employ THOUSANDS of other people beside the THOUSANDS employed by the Casino, the country these people work in legal industries providing food, services, products …Multiplier EFFECT
4. The NUMBERS BOSS are Person seeking to reinstate the old Bahamian “Truck System” where you work and buy from your employer so you never get a salary to use to your discretion rather you live in a cycle …work, buy from boss, boss duck your pay…you carry home less for your family
I just took the time to read the Lotteries and Gaming Act and NO WHERE did it say BAHAMIANS cannot OWN CASINO…they cannot gamble…BUT NO WAY IT SAYS they CANNOT OWN…
That said….Tell Flowers, Sebas, there is a Hotel in FREEPORT, GRAND BAHAMA …two as a matter of fact…with attached Gaming license that can benefit greatly from Bahamian ownership…we WELCOME their investment in the BAHAMIAN ECONOMY if they truly believe in the Bahamians….
Maybe Casino Gambling for Bahamians should be limited to an island, say Freeport or Bimini…
just saying!
The tourist is on vacation here, spends a few days in the casino and go home.
Bahamians live here and have access to the casino on a daily basis which provides more temptation.
I think casinos should not be available to the Bahamian public.

Mr. Miller,
Why does LPIA not have working telephones in the arrivals part of the airport? I waited along with fellow passengers for my luggage for almost two hours!!! Mr. Miller, the luggage was not lost, its just that the workers decided to go and eat their crack conch snack before they unloaded the plane. It is very embarrasing that this garbage still happens! I asked the “could-care-less” workers at the counter to use the telephone to tell my mother so she would not be worried that I will have to wait for my suitcases. But I was told that the only telephones available for my use was in the arrivals area was outside customs! Why are there not telephones on the inside before you clear customs so that you can notify your ride that you are delayed because of unloaded suitcases? This is an international airport. It has certain standards to meet. People need to do their job or give it to someone else who will!
On Thursday of last week my mom’s house was suronded by officers here at the Kemp’s Bay Police Station. They were looking for my nephew. All of the officers had guns even machine gun was there. They kept looking for him. My sister came down when she heard Police with guns were looking for her son. We went to the station there was a summons it said he rode his motor bike without a helmet! That’s right i was so mad! The inspector here say they do things differently from the rest of the island. What crap they have a personell grudge against my family. My parents are old. Please can you help me i need these officer to leave this island. They got too comfortable in their positions. These officers here feel like they are the law. They are not. Give me a number so i can get some help please.
I dont know how true this matter is but these people needs to realize that the police are a part of the law in the Bahamas. They need to read more than gamble while they are on line.
This is the best site for anybody who desires to find out about this topic. You notice so much its nearly onerous to argue with you (not that I truly would want…HaHa). You undoubtedly put a brand new spin on a subject thats been wrote about for ages. Nice stuff, simply nice!
Can you confirm the death of the elderly lady in Bain Town by the name of Eva Mae Smith
I am listening to your show my wife is a nurse at PMH and she along with other nurses are stopping the union dues because they don’t have any union president.
Mrs. Hamilton needs to do the right thing and step down so the union can have elections for her post or let the Vice President take over until they have a new President.
The other issue I have Darold I am trying to form a recycling company and I wrote to the Ministry of Environment about 4 months ago to find out what I need to do in order to start the ball rolling. I have not heard from anyone up to this date, and I ever tried going to BAIC they told me I would get a call in 2 wks. Darold this is 2 mths later.
I am at a dead end and no government agency wants to help me on this. The same set of people that say they believe in Bahamians.
Darold, i listen to your show daily and i am appalled at the many ways that Bahamians try to justify that which cannot be justified and it is a reflection of what is wrong with our society. Bahamians cannot seem to look at anything objectively, everything it seems is looked at through politically jaundiced eyes. The very obvious conflict of interest topic with Cleola Hamilton is a perfect example. PLPs will see absolutely nothing wrong with it and will find all sorts of reasons to say that it is “OK” solely because of the fact that she is PLP. It is a sad reflection on us as a people when we refuse to see things from a principled position, rather than a political one.
Mr Miller,
There is little, if any, technical difference between a
causeway and a road. Often times, the terms are used interchangeably.
A causeway is a raised road, usually providing passageway over wetlands. It is derived from a latin term referring to paved (Roman) roads. A bridge is a structure which allows passage over some type of impediment to travel (such as a roadway over a river, or other body of water).
…..that being said get on with the topic.
Hi Darold, the fact is Sir Sidney is a Bahamian, who can measure the contributions that Sir Sidney has made to the global community and the Bahamas. If I had my way I would name Cat Island ” Poitier’s Island ” who is Cat? Sir Sidney is an international hero.
Darrell,
Pindling et al only crafted the Preamble to the Constitution. The Constitution as it stands is the generic constitution model issued to all Commonwealth Territories. That’s why our Constitution is the same as Jamaica’s. Goo online and check out sir.

HI,DAROLD LOVE YOUR SHOW.
Darrold Miller’s comments today about our athletes were truely shameful. He suggested that none of our olympic athletes, so far, was deserving of congratulations because they did not medal. I was so embarrassed by the comments that I changed the radio dial. Mr. Miller should be reminded that the overwhelming majority of olympians have no expection of medalling, and that there is, indeed, great honour in participating and competing at your best. Is he suggesting that Derrick Atkins ought not to have participated in the Men’s 100m?– because surely, Atkins had virtually no chance of medalling. The eight (8) finalists in any given event represent the world’s elite in that particular event. Ariana Vanderpool-Wallace, Chris Brown and Demetrius Pinder have demonstrated and proven that they are amongst the elite athletes in the world when it comes to their respective disciplines. To me, that is a huge deal. To medal would be extraordinary, and they should all aspire to that. To be counted amongst the world’s elite athletes is truely amazing and our athletes ought to be congratulated.
More action less talk. I think since we now have urban renewal centers we should develop a national development plan to expand what we focus on at these centers. For example I would like to see us focus on teaching our kids how to play volley ball, tennis, swimming, soccer and so on.
I understand that having a band is a good thing but why am I not hearing about other initiatives at these centers.
good morning mr miller i would like for u to talk about the school kids preschoolers grade 7 and 10 needing medical forms fill out before they are allow in school and clinics and the hospital are not willing to do these forms for the kids . Some parents have more than one child and cannot afford private doctor what are they to do , leave the children out of school children want to learn but government is making it hard for them thats why we are getting so many delinquents . There is notting wrong with getting these medical forms but make sure the clinics and the hospital is willing to do it for them
Mr. Miller, I’m listening to your show live. I take exception to the Speaker using Sir Orville Turnquest’s resignation procedure as precedent for handling the Rt. Hon. Hubert Alexander Ingraham. In Sir Orville’s case he was resigning to assume the post of Governor General. The Former Prime Minister should have been allowed to speak first, as was agreed. What happened to all the talk about “the are children watching us” by the Speaker of the House. I cry shame on him and the entire government for playing petty politics. The legacy of Rt. Hon Hubert Alexander Ingraham will speak for itself!
good morning mr. Miller i took my son to the clinic this morning only to be told they are not doing any medicals for kids i asked why. They said the hospital called and said there not takeing anything at the lab this is wrong mr.miller because the goverment is makeing all preschool,7 grade,10,grade students get this done parents got the forms on report card day the school say they wont take the kids in school if it is not done .They need to take the children in school when it opens so long as you can show your trying to get it.What are unemployed persons to do. The people need your help in this matter mr.miller. THANK YOU
Mr. Miller,
Are you telling me that if I enter a contract with you for a period of time when that contract comes to an end I have no right if you decide you do not want the contract to end?
Please I don’t understand! Thank you!
Good Morning Mr. Miller. I’m listening to your discussion with Min. Alfred Gray. What a timely & unique topic, but a flip side to this is what will be done to those farmers (i.e. goat, cow etc) who carry out activities in residential areas. Residents have much to think about…ie. health issues, potential buyer issues. So is it right to say that the value of my property purchased for residential purposes is valued at the same cost for those who can flip it and use it for farming? This has been rectified many times before i.e. Marygold Farms (Seabreeze East). We are living in the 21st century & its disturbing to see that this is still an issue in many residential areas today. I would greatly appreciate if the Minister can address asap.
Hi Darold!
LOVE your show. I live in Thailand where we are 11 hours ahead of you guys – and I stay up late EVERY NIGHT to hear your show. I ESPECIALLY love your open line show! Thanks for keeping us Bahamians abroad in the loop about what’s happening in our country. Keep up the good work.
Bahamian living on the Thai-Burma border.
So what happen – you don’t publish the negative comments??? And I thought the press would enjoy honest feedback.
Unfortunately, Darold’s brand of talk show is not what we need – he is not clear on the facts and he is too concerned about being loud and provocative without being clear on the issues. Please ask him to tone it down if he expects to have intelligent listeners – right now I have to tune in to Ortland because Darold’s show is just noise.
Good afternoon Darold Miller, this is a fantastic show, I thank you for fighting for us the Bahamian people, and questioning Mr. Maynard on the budget and being responsible on how they spend the tax payers money, and how the borrowing was out of control, you are simply the best.continue to do what you are doing!great job!
I’m very happy with the quality of programming I am hearing from Guardian Talk Radio, and especially Darold Miller. Thank you and keep up the good work.
Hello Darold,
Some of your guests have short memories, they forget that the decline of entertainment, especially over the hill began when cruise ships were allowed to “open up” for business after 1967. The idea that we need “Unesco” to help us with “Bahamian Entertainment”in Gambier, could be an indication pof how dependent we have become on outside help. Finally there was a news release that stated that there was no “spitting at”, but that the person spoke in such a way that spit came from their mouth as they spoke. The original rumour was that FNM supporters had spat on Bernadette Christie, which was not true.
Hi Darold….Great to have you back on radio.I tune in every day at 10:00 Hope to see you on cable 12 for the election coverage!!!
Hey Darold…how’s this for confusion in the voting process? My friend is a police and he went to vote yesterday and he said the person gave him the ballot and the pen and told him that he could either mark and X, a tick, or draw the symbol of the party of his choice.
Is this so? And if not so, then I think that could be very dangerous especially to the first time voter who may not be quite certain of what to do.
Good morning Mr miller would you ask the good minister about the mortgage assistance plan the prime ministr spoke about weeks ago.
I’m tuning in now, waiting for Darold. What happen?!
There were some technical issues during broadcast and Guardian Talk Radio worked to return shows back on air asap. Darold Miller Live did air but with limited transition. We apologise for the inconvenience.
Mr Miller, I am listening to your talk with Branville McCartney and the points he raised about crime being a serious problem is agreed but I do differ with his view and that of all others in the race to put the problem of crime at the feet of the government.
We all know that crime is such a complex problem that there is no quick fix and what we during election time is a playing on the emotions of the Bahamian people that crime is the fault of the government.
If my view is not correct then just simply ask the DNA and ask the PLP how many fewer murders will there be under their government. I guarantee that none will committ to anything other than a vague pledge to “Try” to reduce murders and crime.
The reality is that the level of crime will continue to rise as it has over the last 60 years. Yes, there are spikes when their are downturns in the economy or serious problems such as the drugs of the 80′s but generally crime has always been on a steady rise.
Hi I just want to address the gentleman that spoke about Mr. Albury’s character. I never knew Mr. Albury before his introduction to the DNA party, I’ve seem him around but was never introduce to him. After joining the DNA, Mr. Albury appears to be educated, quite articulate, a family man, that has a concern for the country that he was born in and is a part of. He has shown himself to be mannerly and very outgoing. He has research the oil issue and brought his concerns to the Bahamian people, he speaks about the enviroment, the crime issue, the educational problem and immigration issue, that the kind of representative I am looking for in Montague. I am so excited about Mr Albury in the Montague constitutency and he has my support as well as my families support, and unlike the others we see Mr Ben Albury doing his walk abouts, the others send their workers and ask us the people to make appointments to meet candidates.
