We get reaction to the US Embassy’s decision to suspend non-immigrant visa services, at least temporarily. We and our listeners ponder whether this will be the wake-up call for the nation to stop talking and finally start tackling this country’s crime problem.

“Number Portability” for landlines will become a reality this September. Stephen Bereaux, Director for Policy and Regulation with URCA, tells us this means consumers will then be able to take their phone numbers with them if they switch telephone service providers. This would also apply when the Bahamian cellular market monopoly ends next year. Bereaux also tells us that the consultation process has begun for URCA’s Consumer Protection initiative.
