Morning Blend 24 October, 2014

October 24, 2014: 58.1% of high school boys in New Providence believe men should discipline their female partners; 32% of girls agree! That’s just one of the surprising findings in The College of The Bahamas’ online research journal, The International Journal of Bahamian Studies. The study entitled, “Attitudes of High School Students Regarding Intimate Relationships and Gender Norms in New Providence”, surveyed 1,002 Grade 10 and 12 students, and found “the students endorsed a number of sex-related stereotypes”.
Donna Nicolls with the Bahamas Crisis Centre, which collaborated with COB on the research, explains how and why the survey came about, and provides analysis of the findings.
