We discuss your rights when encountering the police. Attorney Gina Morley guides us through what you should and should not do if you are pulled over by police in your vehicle or if they come to your home. Morley answers whether you have the right to refuse the police access to your vehicle or home, if they do not have a warrant. We also talk about what the police are allowed to do, and how long they can hold a person in custody.
Starting next week, Morley’s “It’s the Law” segments will begin airing throughout the day on Guardian Radio 96.9FM. The brief audio clips will feature legal advice on a wide range of issues.

Appearing on Blank Canvas this week is Neda Brown, Deputy Chief of Mission for the US Embassy, and three CR Walker High School Students—Chaneaka Bain, Marlecia Johnson and Danevio Neely—who participated in the Poet-in-Residence Workshop with visiting poet Omikongo Dibinga. The students speak about their experience in undergoing the week-long workshop with Mr. Dibinga, who taught them to “write not fight” and deal with their feelings and problems through spoken world poetry. A performance of the students’ poetry will be held this week at the National Art Gallery on Friday May 1st at 6 p.m.
