We kick off “Men’s Week” – examining issues affecting men in today’s Bahamas.

In Part 1, Pastor Carlos Reid discusses whether there is growing discrimination against men, and confusion about gender roles, particularly with the increased empowerment of women.

We discuss all the hot topics in the news – the government’s establishment of a Constitutional Review Commission; the FNM’s plans for a class action lawsuit against the government for those who feel they have been “victimized”; the latest crime statistics; and Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace’s impressive Olympic swim in the Women’s 100m Freestyle semifinals.

Also, Sandra Clarke with The Spanish Fluency Centre discusses the ease with which even very young children can learn Spanish as a second language. She highlights the centre’s ‘Future Bilingual Professionals-Now!’ program, which seeks to “prepare children for a successful professional career with foreign language training beyond classroom activity.”

Marielle Barrow, Fulbright Scholar and PhD student at George Mason University writing her dissertation on Bahamian art in general and The Sacred Space of Antonius Roberts in particular. Ms Barrow is also the editor of the bi-annual scholarly journal Caribbean In Transit which covers culture from the region.
