Morning Blend w/ Dwight Strachan – 30th September, 2015

We discuss the plights of the elderly, including financial, physical and psychological abuse, and neglect. With October recognized as “Older Persons Month”, National Council on Older Persons Chairperson Juliette Barnwell and Co-chair Charles Sawyer talk about these challenges, and how we should be “Creating Inclusive Environments for Older Persons” – the local theme for this month’s observances here in The Bahamas. Nurse Justina Knowles also discusses what we can do to help our older relatives get more physically and mentally active, and what can be done to change the mindsets of younger people about senior citizens.
International Day of Older Persons is tomorrow, October 1. This year’s theme is “Sustainability and Age Inclusiveness in the Urban Environment.”
The month of activities in The Bahamas kicks off tomorrow with a church service and luncheon at Calvary Bible Church on Collins Avenue at 10am.

he new Lignum Club at LPIA is promising “an exceptional travel experience”. Our guests Maya Nottage and Austin Weeks tell us that after the lounge’s grand opening on Thursday, Domestic and non-US International travelers will – through membership or through walk-ins – be able to access the Lignum Club’s many features. Those include spa services, business services, and even private meeting rooms with catering, if desired.
Membership Plans are Silver, Gold, Platinum and Diamond, with prices ranging from $35 to $2,700 annually. The Walk-in price is $38 per person for three hours in the lounge. Cardholders must be 18 years or older, but children are allowed. There are dress code restrictions.
