May 20, 2014: The Cat Island Rake n Scrape Festival is just over two weeks away. Festival Association President Sidney Isaacs tells us about the origins of the festival, and all that’s planned for this year’s event.
Isaacs also gives his view on the proposed Bahamas Carnival, and responds to musician Kirk “KB” Bodie’s Facebook post suggesting that instead of the Carnival, the Rake n Scrape Festival should be promoted as the country’s flagship music/entertainment event. The Cat Island Rake n Scrape Festival is June 5-8.

May 19, 2014:
Melanie Griffin, Minister of Social Services and Yamacraw MP, and Senator Cheryl Bazard, speak about women in politics in The Bahamas. We discuss why in a country where women dominate nearly every field and sector, there are still so few women in frontline politics, with only 10 of the 56 parliamentarians in the House and Senate being women.
This week, the Bahamas Chapter of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Women’s Association will host a two-day regional (Caribbean, Americas & Atlantic Region) conference here in Nassau. Under the theme: “Women: The Voice, The Vote, The Victory”, the conference takes place on May 22 & 23, at the Melia Nassau Beach Resort. For more info, log on to cpa-caaregion.org

May 16, 2014:
Alesha @aleshahart ruffles more than a few feathers during a heated discussion about wages in the country, sparked by the reaction to the House Committee report calling for a review of MP’s salaries and for the construction of a new parliament. The debate touches on the minimum wage, salary increases, and the work ethic of the Bahamian people. While many agree with the comments made, others are incensed, and we are inundated with tweets and Facebook posts. Log on to guardiantalkradio.com to listen to the show.

May 14, 2014: Bah. Bar Assoc. Pres. Elsworth Johnson speaks about the NIA: the National Intelligence Agency. In our monthly “LegalEase” segment, he discusses the concerns about and the dangers of this organization operating outside the law, and without any legislation currently governing it.
Amid much speculation about what the NIA actually does and how it retrieves information, Johnson (pictured, right, speaking with Morning Blend co-host Andrew Strachan) examines the current rules under the Listening Devices Act relating to wire-tapping, and video and audio recordings.
