Nutritionist Dr. Patti Symonette talks about the dangers of ignoring food and beverage calories and portion sizes during the holidays. She gives us tips on how to survive the season – and all those parties – and how to avoid being regretful and depressed come January.

Also, ‘Shop Smart’ Operations Manager Atalia Cash gives us some last-minute gift ideas. The department store chain sells toys, jewelry and household items, and is having a Midnight Madness sale Christmas Eve for last minute shoppers. Our reaction to the massive Island Luck Christmas Giveaway over the weekend; the huge crowds at the events held concurrently on several islands apparently won thousands of dollars in cash and prizes. We ask if anyone remembers January 28, 2013!
And we discuss another violent crime-filled weekend in the country.

Plus, fashion stylist Kedar Clarke tells us what’s hot and what’s not for the holiday season, and the hottest fashion trends for 2014.

Today on MORNING BLEND:

Bahamian fishermen discuss the seriousness of the poaching problem in the country. Commercial Fishers Alliance President Adrian LaRoda (pictured, far right) and Vice President Keith Carroll (2nd from left) share their concerns that Dominican fishermen are severely depleting fishery resources in he southern Bahamas, and that penalties for poachers are not stiff enough.

“In The News”, the Police Staff Association says because of the 12-hour shifts, police officers are owed “probably in the millions” in compensation for the extra hours worked. Listeners debate whether this would have been seen as an “essential service” during a time of emergency, and whether they would and should be entitled to compensation.

Today on MORNING BLEND:

Dr. Betsy Boze, outgoing College of the Bahamas President, speaks candidly about her three-year stint at the helm of the institution – the highs, the lows, and what she wishes she could have done differently. Her last day in office is December 31. Dr. Boze discusses some of the exciting plans for physical plant upgrades at the college, and the long trek to university status. She also reveals some surprising details about COB’s accreditation.

Also, Terez Davis Nixon and her alter ego Dynamite Daisy pay us a visit. Terez tells us how this eclectic and eccentric character came to be. And she discusses the challenges facing those bitten by the acting bug in this country.
Daisy talks about her new full length comedy show, “Daisy, the Valley and the Shadow of Death.” It runs for one day only, with two showings on December 26, at the Wyndham Rainforest Theatre.

And “In The News”, Prime Minister Perry Christie’s latest comments on the state of negotiations with CWC over BTC. And we try to figure out why both the Ministry of National and the Royal Bahamas Police Force are claiming they are not responsible for providing security for cabinet ministers.
