With just over 20 registered members left with the Bahamas Branch of the British Legion, we discuss the dire need to tell and record the stories of the men who served for the Allies in World War II. Bishop Cephas Ferguson, Branch Chairman – who also served as part of the Royal Air Force in WWII – and Adina Munroe, 1st Assistant Secretary, tell us about the upcoming events leading up to Remembrance Day, the dire need for funding for our war veterans, and the importance of supporting the organization’s annual Poppy Drive.

And the Bahamas Amateur Wrestling Federation is on a campaign to get more Bahamians interested and involved in Greco-Roman and Freestyle Wrestling. We have a heated debate on Discovery Day versus National Heroes Day. With the government set today to officially sign into effect the National Heroes Act – making the 2nd Monday every October the National Heroes Day Holiday, eliminating Discovery Day as a holiday – we discuss whether this is the right way forward, and whether we have effectively capitalized on the historical significance of Discovery Day.

And the National L.E.A.D. Institute continues its work as a community correctional organization, providing assistance for “at risk” school age juveniles and pre- & post- incarceration prison inmates. President & CEO Troy Clarke tells us more about the work of L.E.A.D. (Leadership, Esteem, Ability, Discipline), and the official launch of its North Carolina Operations in Raleigh on October 19. Dr. Levette Dames discusses the findings of her study looking at the impact of positive versus dysfunctional thinking and spirituality on breast cancer patients and their recovery.

And October is National Career Month. Our guests, Carol Minnis, Head of Guidance Counselling, C.V. Bethel Senior High, and Cpl. Leonardo Burrows, Police Training College, discuss the importance of children being encouraged to have and pursue their own career goals and dreams – even if those differ from their parents’ goals. But we also discuss the need to balance this with the realities of the career deficiencies and future needs of the country, and to encourage today’s youth to pursue careers to fill those specific posts.

Plus, “In the News”, reaction to the govt.’s detailed outline of all the associated costs for January’s Gambling Referendum – all except for the costs of payments to the foreign consultants hired ahead of that poll.
We also talk about American actor/comedian Craig Robinson; his arrest here in Nassau after being found in possession of marijuana and ecstasy, his fine of only $1000, and his ridiculous claim that he didn’t know ‘weed’ was illegal in The Bahamas.
We discuss Works Minister DPM Philip Davis’ “explanation” as to why New Providence has been allowed to become overgrown with weeds and bushes.
And we talk about Cable Bahamas’ legal action against URCA over the regulator’s decision to deny requests to increase basic cable TV rates.

Who’s looking out for consumers in The Bahamas? We discuss rights and protection for consumers in the country, the lack of a dedicated independent body for consumer issues, and the confusion about the role of the government’s Consumer Affairs Office. Listeners share their concerns about violations and infractions.

‘Shakespeare in Paradise’ is celebrating its 5th anniversary. Festival Director Nicolette Bethel gives us details about this year’s theatre productions, including the first revival of the Classic Bahamian folk opera “The Legend of Sammie Swain” in almost 30 years, and this year’s signature Shakespeare adaptation, “The Shrew”.
Bethel discusses the challenges with regularly putting on a theatre festival in this country.
