We speak about the government’s proposed energy sector reforms and the future of BEC. Renward Wells, Parliamentary Secretary with the Ministry of Works & Urban Development, answers questions as to why the recommendation to split BEC into two entities, the role renewable energy will play, and why the apparent rush to have proposals in before the end of the year, with certain aspects of the energy plan to be in place by mid-2014.

“In The News”, we discuss US congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (Republican-Florida) and her letter branding the country’s decision to repatriate 24 Cubans on Friday as “spineless” and “immoral”.

Math and English scores for the BGCSE exams fell this year compared to 2012. We discuss the results and try to determine why year-after-year we see few improvements with the national examinations.

Plus “In The News”, we have heated discussions on the latest comments from Leslie Miller, the proposed changes at BEC, and the threat against the Bahamian Consulate in Miami.

With “wild accusations” the apparent theme for the week, our ‘Song of the Week’, “Before You Accuse Me” by Bo Diddley.

We discuss the importance of environmental advocacy in The Bahamas. Gail Woon with Earthcare Bahamas out of Grand Bahama, Lynn Gape with Bah. National Trust, and Eleanor Philips with the Nature Conservancy, outline some of the most pressing environmental concerns in the country today, including balancing economic development with environmental protection, conch and grouper conservation, and tackling invasive species.

We also discuss how we can move away from the perception that concern for the environment applies only to the elite or the rich, and how we can get more of the Bahamian masses involved.
