The Ministry of Health is expanding its immunization program. Dr. Delon Brennen, Deputy Chief Medical Officer, tells us the ministry is introducing Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Vaccine free of charge for children ages 9-11. HPV can lead to cervical cancer and other cancers of the genitals.
The ministry is also launching a “catch-up campaign” for MMR (measles-mumps-rubella) Vaccine.
And this fall, injectable polio vaccine will be available at age two months and four months, instead of the oral polio vaccine.
For more information, call the Ministry of Health at 502-4700 or visit the ministry or any public health clinic.

Blank Canvas show host Amanda Coulson invites culinary artists into the studio tonight and discuss how through both visual and culinary arts we can better form a coherent national identity. Bahamian master Chef Simeon Hall (pictured right) and visiting celebrity Chef from Chicago, Judson Todd Allen (left), talk about the identification and support of local dishes and flavours and how food can bring people together and push a nation forward. Chef Allen is the host of his own television show on the Food Network and is visiting The Bahamas to learn about what makes our dishes unique; Chef Hall—a major supporter of locally grown produce, healthy eating, and teaching children to learn to cook with what grows around us—has been showing him the farms, animals, fruits and vegetables of our islands.
