$1 Billion in financial aid and scholarships are available to international students pursuing tertiary education in the US. That’s according to the College Board, the not-for-profit organization representing more than 6,000 schools, colleges and universities. The Lyford Cay Foundation and the US Embassy have joined forces with the College Board to host a Scholarship Fair and a Public Forum this Thursday, January 16. Brian Hartman, Director, International K-12 Initiatives, College Board, Monique Hinsey, Director, Educational Programs & Alumni Affairs, Lyford Cay Foundation, and Myra McPhee, Education and Cultural Specialist, US Embassy, tell us both events are free and open to everyone, including school principals, teachers, guidance counsellors, parents and students. The Scholarship Fair (4pm-5:30pm) and Public Forum (6pm-8:30pm) are set for Evangelistic Temple Auditorium on Collins Ave.
The 2013-2014 flu season has been particularly hard on young and middle-aged adults in the US. Authorities there are reporting a number of deaths, and say there have been more than 2,600 influenza hospitalizations since October. And it appears the main flu virus this year is H1N1, the same one that caused worldwide panic back in 2009.
