Accountant Terence Bethel says his recent “Study of the effects of Value Added Tax on Retail Businesses in The Bahamas” – an “arithmetic study on the effects a reduction in customs duty on imported items on cost of goods sold for retail firms who are importers” – finds that there should be an increase in gross profit and no increase in the cost of sales, contrary to widespread claims from the business community.
