What caused last week’s record rainfall and flooding, and is the Met Office able to predict the exact amount of rain we would see in one part of New Providence compared to another? Trevor Basden, Senior Deputy Director of the Department of Meteorology, answers those questions. Plus, with the Atlantic Hurricane Season set to begin Saturday (June 1), Basden gives us a summary of the outlook for the next six months, and the lessons learned from last year’s Hurricane Sandy, which resulted in two deaths in The Bahamas.
Also, tomorrow is World Hunger Day. The local group “Hands for Hunger” has been working to eradicate hunger in The Bahamas. And according to Anna Bancroft, Hands for Hunger Communications Manager, the numbers of people going hungry in this country have been steadily increasing over the past five years. Bancroft tells us about tomorrow’s “Double Lunch Day”, encouraging everyone to pack a lunch at home, and donate the money they would normally spend on lunch, and the “Food for Thought” Panel Discussion on National Food Security.
