And “In The News”, State Minister of Finance Michael Halkitis says he does not think chief VAT advocate and govt. VAT Coordinator Ishmael Lightbourne should lose his job just because he owes thousands in real property taxes. Halkitis told The Nassau Guardian, “the fact that he is employed, there’s a better chance that the government would get some of what is owed. If he is removed we have very little chance of getting anything.” Halkitis says more than $500 million is outstanding in real property tax.
