Our CONSTITUTIONAL 101 series examines discrimination allowed by our constitution. Attorney Peter Maynard discusses the provisions that specifically prevent Bahamians from being allowed to gamble in casinos or conduct lotteries. We also look at provisions allowing the government to seize properties in the interest of “defence, public safety, public order, public morality, public health, town and country planning”, among others. These are all covered under Chapter III of the constitution: Protection of Fundamental Rights & Freedoms.
