Today on Morning Blend, the track club on tiny Moore’s Island has been breaking records, earning accolades and making waves for a number of years now. It’s all been under the tutelage of coach Pastor Anthony Williams. What Williams has been able to accomplish on this tiny cay just off the west coast of Abaco – which has no track, just an open space in a field – has captured the attention of many, including businessman Nick Dean. Dean, along with his partners, has helped develop the Moore’s Island Student Athlete Program (MISAP).

Also, we’d like to remind you that the Inspired Leadership (LEAD2015) Simulcast for The Bahamas is just days away. Local Facilitator Jacqueline Ledgister-Bethell tells us the event is designed to inspire true leaders and leadership. It will be streamed LIVE from Dallas, Texas, and will cover 2 days and 22 speakers and will be broadcast to about 1,000 sites, expecting to reach about 1 million people.

#‎MorningBlend‬ on March 10, 2015:
The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (Bahamas) Branch is hosting a half-day conference this week. Entitled, “The Future Is Arbitration”, the conference will feature special speakers and panelists, with Prime Minister Perry Christie serving as special luncheon speaker.
Our guests Damani Horton and Dr. Peter Maynard tell us the cost to attend is $80. The conference is set for Thursday, 8am – 1pm, at the British Colonial Hilton. Also, We put the eating habits of many Bahamians under the microscope, examining how poor nutrition can impact health, particularly as it relates to chronic non-communicable diseases. This issue has taken on increased significance with the planned implementation of National Health Insurance (NHI).
As it is National Nutrition Month, we talk with Shandera Smith, Vice President of BAND (Bahamas Association of Nutrition & Dietetics), about what’s being done to get Bahamians thinking about controlling their portion sizes and about healthier food options.
This year’s theme for Nutrition Month is “Beat VAT… Bite into a Healthy Lifestyle”. Smith and BAND are encouraging people to choose foods for their nutritional value, and not for the brand name or cost, and to plan meals and prepare a food budget.
Smith also outlines how to measure food portions on a plate, and what portion should be protein, starch and vegetables – which should come as a major shock to the average Bahamian.
