Financial Services Minister Ryan Pinder tells us of the potential benefits to consumers and local manufacturers when the Bahamas Bureau of Standards fully comes into effect later this year. Pinder says The Bahamas is the only country in the region without a standards bureau. This aims to establish standards in areas like food hygiene and package labeling. To prepare for this, the Bureau is holding a National Standardization Forum next week. We also discuss the state of the financial services industry, and value-added tax.

DPM Philip Davis says, “why would something be wrong for me to accept an invitation to a birthday party? “Well, except that it was a lavish black-tie affair at a major resort for Island Luck boss Adrian Fox. FNM Deputy Leader Loretta Butler-Turner says she is “taken aback” by the DPM partying with web shop owners, especially as the matter to determine whether the gaming activities going at these businesses are legal is currently pending in the Supreme Court. Davis says FNMs were there too!
