Brendalee Adderley, Project Manager for the Department of Statistic’s Household Expenditure Survey, gives us details about the survey, which is currently underway throughout the country. Adderley says the intensive survey can take up to three hours, depending on the number of people in the household.

Also, we talk to Mike Sands, President of the Bahamas Association of Athletic Associations, about the arrest in Tallahassee, Florida, of Bahamian junior athlete and Florida State University (FSU) student Stephen Newbold. Sands says the BAAAs is trying to determine what role, if any, Newbold – who has been suspended from the FSU track team – will play with Team Bahamas at next week’s CARIFTA track & field championships.

Plus, we have a heated discussion about Police Commissioner Ellison Greenslade’s comments that recent claims of brutality and abuse are a “black eye” on the force, and that the public appears to be losing confidence in the police. And after roaming dogs attack a woman while she’s jogging, we and our listeners are enraged that there is still not tougher legislation in place to tackle the problem of roaming dogs and their wayward “owners”.

It’s World Down Syndrome Day! Ida Poitier-Turnquest, Vice President, Bahamas Down Syndrome Association, tells us about the work of the organization, and about her life with a now 21-year old son with Down Syndrome. We also talk via telephone with association president Cheryl Johnson-Newell, and with Wende Hanna, President of the recently formed Grand Bahama Down Syndrome Society.

We also discuss the need for a national plan clearly laying out the job/career needs in the country, and the need for more people to inspire their children to be creative in determining their future careers, instead of just seeking out jobs.

If you’re in an area of New Providence suffering from frequent low water pressure or even no pressure, Preston Rahming, Senior Manager, Water & Sewerage Corporation’s Project Management Unit, says their recently launched 10-year, $83 million water infrastructure repair project will go a long way in alleviating current problems.

Also, in “Doc Talk with Dr. C”, Dr. James Constantakis tells us he believes vitamin and mineral supplements are for the most part unnecessary. He says we can get the vitamins and minerals we need from the increasingly fortified foods we eat every day.
One exception – pregnant women and Folic Acid.

And “In The News”, we discuss church leaders and their calls for Bahamians to receive a bigger slice of the pie should there be oil in The Bahamas. And we talk about the ongoing problem of copper theft in the country.
