David Burrows, Director of Marketing, Cable Bahamas, discusses the future of broadband and cable television. He also addresses hot-button issues, including: the company’s ongoing pursuit of basic cable rate increases; the much-disliked Latin American feeds for many channels on its lineup; local commercials on foreign cable channels; and the ongoing efforts to provide cable television services throughout the entire country.

“In The News”, the big questions of the day: Who are the landowners for the many shanty towns all over The Bahamas? And why are these people being protected? The calls grow for these individuals to be exposed, as we learn more about the devastating fire in the New Providence Joe Farrington Road shanty community.

Dr. Duane Sands, who was part of the National Stem Cell Task Force, gives the facts about stem cells. He tells us about the potential opportunities for The Bahamas, should the country become a leader on the stem cell research and therapy frontier.

We also discuss concerns about double standards for Potters Cay Fish Fry businesses, many of which were shut down over the weekend for not having liquor licences – all while gaming operations continue unabated in web shops. We also discuss the general state of the Potters Cay Dock. Plus, the latest controversy with cash-for-gold type businesses.

Plus, our ‘Quote of the Week’.

Our CONSTITUTION 101 series continues, examining “The Judicature”, covered under Chapter 7 of the Bahamas’ Constitution. This section addresses the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal and Privy Council. Guest Thomas Evans, QC, sheds some light on the selection and tenure of justices, and the provision allowing Parliament to enact laws to allow any other court to be established in substitution of the Privy Council – without the need for a referendum.

We also discuss the frustration with bail being granted to repeat accused offenders. And we question how the abortion issue became entwined with the stem cell debate.

Plus we have our ‘Song of the Week’, “Weird Science” by Oingo Boingo.
