Dr. Jill Farrell, Associate Dean of Barry University’s School of Education, discusses the connection between children’s academic performance in school and their diet and nutritional habits. We discuss how teaching young kids “nutritional literacy” and about making healthier food choices is critical in getting their parents to make key lifestyle changes to prevent obesity and diabetes and other debilitating chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs).

September 1, 2014: With most students throughout the country returning to the classroom this week, Bahamas Union of Teachers President Belinda Wilson joins us to discuss teachers’ concerns and education issues. She also shares the BUT’s position on the Department of Education’s proposed High School Diploma. This year’s 10th Graders are to be the first to receive these when they graduate in 2017. But Wilson says teachers have had very little information on exactly how this new system will work.
