It not that I’ve been one to be a conspiracy theorist or anything, I don’t think the Americans faked the moon landing, because you would have to prove that the moon exist and isn’t just a ploy to distract us from the complete abandon and disregard that our Sun Overlord, you know what I mean! They don’t want me to ask these questions, but if the Sun loves us soooooooo much where is he at night when we are terrorized by the Night Steeds and Mares who trample our crops and dreams?

Wait what was I talking about?

Oh yea, I’m not all about conspiracy theories but I had for a long time been suspicious of the apparent bourgeois forming organizations to help the poor proletariat. That may have has less to do with any sin they committed and more to do with the fact that bourgeois is French and the major contribution that the French have made to the world is representing the adulterous archetype for films set in Europe.

 Oh, and screwing over Haiti

Then Kristina McNeil was like “we’re not all bad people, Rotaract Club of Nassau Sunset is all about helping children and ending Polio.” And I was like “What is Rotaract?” Maybe it is a gang; a group of vigilantes ? And why were they fighting a disease that no one in The Bahamas has? Was it a shadowy group of individuals, in secret rooms deciding the fate of thousands?

No, because that would make them Her Majesty Official Cabinet .

You can surmise then that they are my guests this week, and they answered all of my questions, even the devious ones.

“What is family planning any way?” That is something that Joe Jackson probably never said as his wife conceived their 10th R&B performer and industrial strength  no lye relaxer test subject. But when you really think about it, what is Family Planning any way? Is it a thing where you sit with an architect and draw out schematics for how tall and wide the trophy case is going to be from your professional sport playing son who you live vicariously through?

Yes that’s where we’ll put my own shattered dreams.

But apparently family planning is about–planning your family, (special thanks to Self Explanatory Titles Committee for not giving it an ironic name like Parliamentary Procedure.) How does that happen? Well apparently you can’t just be having children willy nilly, which if you’ve ever watched TLC you would know that is not as easy as it sounds. Is there ideal amount of children for a family to have? I know that every Christmas my older sister wished our parents had stopped at 1, but meh. Still before we start counting children dear reader we still have to figure out where babies come from?

Yes, Its obvious that all babies should come out of the baby chute, next the soda fountain.

Debunking the myths of sex and sexuality are the hardest part (in my opinion) of family planning; Is it true you won’t get pregnant if you have sex standing up– what if he is wearing a condom while standing up? How close is real life sex to what happens on True Blood? When should I expect a coven of topless underwear models to attack me in my small southern town? I know what you are all, “Do you really need to teach people about sex, it’s 2013, doesn’t NBC and FOX sitcoms cover this issue?” Yes. Because some people don’t even know how to define sex, some people follow the Bill Clinton School of Sex where it doesn’t count unless you lock it in like Legos, while other folks are all “handshakes are for marriage!!!”

Tobias Wolter (April 2006)

Seriously you don’t know where his hands have been!

Any way Kevon Lightbourne from the Bahamas Family Planning Association came by to talk to us about everything that we have questions on, although I didn’t ask him about whether or not he is attacking the problem at the source, that is lobbying the government to create legislature against R. Kelly, Barry White, Blue Mystic and Conch Snacks

The first time you meet a vegan you usually think “now there is a person who really enjoys a plate full of cardboard and almond milk”, but like most prejudices formed from watching episodes of Family Guy I would be terribly mistaken.

Everyone should develop prejudices the civilized way, based on sports teams. Like how I am prejudice against anyone whose hairline won’t concede to their greatness.

People have been abstaining from eating animals for centuries for different reasons; some because of poverty and others because of religious obligations like the Brahman caste in India. With that said the word vegan wasn’t coined until 1944 by Donald Watson, years after the 1806 date when Dr William Lambe  the first recorded person  chose to abstain from animal product, even though he could totally afford it . Different people do it for different reasons but I have a feeling Dr. Lambe was tired of people making mutton jokes and trying to spread mint jelly on his leg. Look at that face.

Doesn’t he look like a person who has  been bitten by a 1800’s peasant who doesn’t understand homophones aren’t menu options?

Being a vegan seems straight forward but it becomes quite complicated if you really think about it.  Does honey count as an animal bi-product? What about yeast? If you are what you eat, aren’t the cows actually grass and in turn aren’t we all herbivores? What about vampires and zombies? Are there a vegan food choices for them? And the biggest question of all, if someone puts their heart and soul in a dish, does that count as animal product?

There is definitely some chunks of human soul and passion in this salad! I want to speak with your chef!”

Well these were some of the questions that I asked Gio Cooper, Chef and Owner of “Da Bahamian Vegan “ on this week’s broadcast of What’s The Point. So if you ever was curious about what it means to be vegan (and if its possible to do so in The Bahamas) then this is the show for you. Even if you believe the major Bahamian food groups are “bread, conch, chicken, rice , ketchup and macaroni”.

Almost a balanced meal, except that lime looks organic!
